As I sat in the steady rain Saturday at Owen Fied in Norman, I saw a poised Quarterback Landry Jones in his first start as a Sooner. He threw the ball with accuracy usually right where the receiver needed it to be, you would have thought Landry had started a ton of games. Yes, it was Idaho State but Landry Jones has showed us there is a future for OU football after heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford leaves for the NFL.

Landry Jones threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns -- all to Ryan Broyles. Ryan Broyes had a excellent night catching the ball with one circus catch in the deep endzone that he somehow managed to stay in the endzone, I still don't know how he did it. Unfortunately Ryan was just about the only receiver that played well. We have got to find a couple of quality receivers that perform every game. Brandon Caleb did not have a great night and he needs to perform every week. Ryan Broyles is small for a receiver and against quality opponents will be double teamed. We have no tight end threat and it will keep us from winning games in the future. As far as the running game, Demarco Murray showed again he was the best running back OU has. Why they start Chris Brown, I don't know. Demarco is a touchdown waiting to happen, Chris Brown will get you three yards. At the first of the night OU tried to ram it into the endzone using Chris Brown with no misdirection even agianst Idaho State they could not do it. While the offensive line and play calling was mostly at fault, Later in the night we had a similar goal line situation, and Demarco ran the ball at the goal line and knifed threw the line to score easily.
The defense was stifling Idaho State had -22 yards rushing. Idaho State was only able to get a couple of passes caught as well. The special team play was great except for a missed extra point. If Jimmy misses he usually hits the goal post and he did it again Saturday.
Tulsa will be a much bigger challenge than Idaho State, it will be at Norman. There is a small chance that Sam Bradford will be back for this game. Knowing OU like I do, they will make Sam wait until at least the Miami game. Go Sooners.
